Academic Stress

How many times have you stressed yourself out over academic pressure. Over blogs, papers, grades, exams, mid terms, finals or even financial aid. Academic pressure can take a toll on our minds and bodies.

Stress is a normal physical response to events that make you feel threatened, or upset your balance in some way. Stress response is an automatic process known as flight, fight or freeze. It's important for everyone to learn to recognize when our stress levels are out of control. Academic pressure is one of the main reasons students drop out of school.

Meditation is a great solution to relieve mental stress. Studies show it helps clear the mind, discipline and focus. During meditation our minds stop processing information as actively as they normally would.

Exercise is also a great form of stress relief on our bodies. Being active can boost your feel good endorphin's and distract you. It also helps improve mood, sleep, depression, and anxiety.

There are many other ways to reduce stress like reading, watching TV, playing sports, getting a massage are all effective ways to keep from over stressing.

Career Choice

google.imaes
I returned back to school after 12 years because a Medical Assistant wage was no longer cutting it. I graduated in 2000 and married my high school sweetheart. The plan was to take a semester off school and enjoy married life, Plan changed soon as I found out I was pregnant 4 months later. I chose a fast track CMA career because I knew my husbands wage plus a minimum wage job was not going to be enough to survive on. It worked out, I ended up loving my career choice and it was enough to live nicely, until my marriage ended eleven years later. I moved back in with my parents worked for a while but the wage wasn't enough to make it on my own with my two boys. I decided school was my best option especially since I had my parents full support.

Naturally I chose to go for the nursing program since I enjoyed Medical Assisting very much. i like to fix things and fix people. Caring for others is an emotionally fulfilling and rewarding career. I worked many different specialties in the eleven years of my health care profession. As a registered nurse I'll have a better more rewarding career, and a better paying job. I haven't been accepted in the program yet, I will be applying in the fall. Meanwhile I've taken all prerequisites and I'm currently working on classes for a BSN.

Parenting

google image

I was raised in a home where the consequence to any kind of misbehavior was going to result in painful agony to my backside. I'm not in any way saying i have bad parents or that i was abused in any way. That's just how my parents were raised and that's how they raised my brothers and I. They were loving parents and they gave us everything we wanted, but they were very strict and there wasn't much leeway for mess ups.

I guess they thought they had to instill fear in us so that we would behave. I believe differently, I believe communication and positive role modeling is key to raising an upstanding adult. Times are different and kids have many more right than when we were growing up. Corporal punishment isn't an option anymore, especially in public.

My parenting is very much different than the way my parents raised us for several reasons the biggest difference is that I'm a single parent and my boys father is not around to help with punishment. When my kids were younger, I maybe spanked them a hand full of times. I preferred talking to them about what they did wrong and my disciplinary actions consisted of time outs, then as they grew older i started to take things they really enjoyed away for a day or two. My boys are now 11 and 13 yrs old, pre-teen and teenager. There's a big difference in the way I talk to them now and how i talked to them when they were 6 and 8. They are both good kids but they have their mess ups and now even if I wanted to I really don't have the option of spanking since they are big and it doesn't hurt them anymore. My oldest is 5 inches taller and out weighs me by 35 lbs, my youngest just a tad bit smaller in stature than me. Parenting is a hard job, at-least for me it is, and its nerve wrecking knowing that the outcome of my decisions on how i raise my boys affects so many people. I hope and pray my best is good enough.

The School

I thought this story was hilarious and suspenseful, as I kept reading, I waited for an action packed twist to give me some clue as to what was going on with all the dying. Then i just realized the instructor was a little soft and let the kids kinda do what they wanted, seeing that at least they were learning something plus responsibility.

So let's see, here's the list: trees, snakes, herb garden, gerbils, white mice, salamander, fish, Edgar the puppy, Korean orphan-Kim, 10 parents, many grandparents, Matthew and Tony. That's a lot of deaths in one school year.

The classroom discussion sort of threw me off, it sounded a bit intellectual for kids who accidentally kill all these plants and animals. Then out of no where they ask the instructor to demonstrate sexual intercourse with the assistant.

I kind of expected a more dramatic ending to this story. Like that the instructor and the kids were aliens from another planet and they just could not help that all living things around them died.

Birthmark

The Birthmark

The story is interesting and amusing, yet I'm still unsure about how to feel about it. Aylmer is a mad scientist and total d-bag that gets bored way too easy. He gets obsessed with his new bride  Georgian's birthmark. She was a beautiful woman who had many loves. She believed her birthmark to be sort of a charm all her life, until Aylmer comes along and tells her it makes her imperfect. The crimson red birthmark on the center of her left cheek is in the form of a tiny hand. Told by her lovers to be the hand print of a fairy as a token of magic gift that would give her power over her lovers hearts. Not everyone felt the birthmark to be magical, Georgiana was judge quite harshly by fellow women, describing it as a hideous bloody hand.
Aylmer constant remarks and harsh looks start to trouble her deeply. When her husband offers to try experiments on her to remove the awful birthmark she accepts. She prefers death to continuing to live on with the odious hand on her face. The next day he takes her and secludes her in his laboratory. Aminadab is Aylmers assistant, Georgiana describes him as a strong, short, bulky man with shaggy hair. Not very smart but loyal to his master Aylmer.
Days pass and she wonders when her husband will start the process of removing the birthmark. She passes the time by reading volumes of books in his library. She comes across his journal of experiments and realizes how much more she loves and admires Aylmer a genius he is even when many of his experiments had failed. He abstains from telling her he had been poisoning her with his different elixirs since they have arrived to his laboratory. He was successful in removing the birthmark but ended up killing her with his poison.

Globalization - Americanization

Americanization is only a small part of globalization. America has formed its own culture in the areas of social aspects, economy, and politics. There are several contributors for this sense of American nationalism. People have immigrated here since the discovery of America and brought their distinct cultures with them. These cultures made a melting pot of different cultures that make America. The English language we use today itself has changed over time because of the mixture of cultures. As people come here they begin to enjoy the freedoms associated with our country and gradually start to act less like foreigners and more like Americans. However, we bring and continue to practice and live by our culture customs and beliefs. People tend to find other people from the country they came from and build towns of ethnic enclaves. And, just as the rest of the world witnesses American culture almost everywhere around the world by what we call cultural icons of our times. Like sneakers, blue jean and t-shirts, burgers, Starbucks and Coca Cola to nearly every country on earth. Foreigners also influence the change in American culture. There go changing American culture.
